FINAL FANTASY IV
TINYTOAD PROJECT #678 CREATED: FEBRUARY 2024 The mysterious ToadLady who patrolled the caverns of the Sylvan Cave depended largely upon a cavalcade of miniature TinyToads to do her bidding. The cute little pink and purple amphibians typically followed her around in groups of three or six, surrounding her and protecting her from harm. They only knew one type of black magic—the spell of Toad, appropriately enough—and they usually cast the spell indiscriminately, often transforming human opponents into frogs and then humans and then back again in rapid succession during the same battle. TinyToads were not hard to defeat, but their numbers made it difficult to dispatch them quickly and efficiently. In the grand scheme of things, however, as far as Cecil Harvey and his traveling companions were concerned, they were a comparatively small problem, and it wasn't long until both the ToadLady and her minions croaked. (The TinyToad was one of the only enemies from Final Fantasy IV whose game sprite was not reused as another monster, at least in the original version of the game. The sprite design was recycled in some of the susequent remakes of the game, however.) My TinyToad project is barely a project in its own right. I intended it to be more of an accessory to the ToadLady project, whenever I get around to doing her. I used a tiny frog toy that I got from the gift shop at the Rainforest Café, shortening its legs and bulking up its belly with Sculpey to make it cuter and fatter. I used my airbrush to give it a nice pink-to-purple gradient, trying to match the 16-bit game sprite as closely as possible. |
