GALVATRON (ROBOT HEROES)
PROJECT #489 CREATED: 2012 "My power is everything; defeat is absurd!" In 1986, Hasbro released a new Decepticon leader toy to replace Megatron, the second in what would ultimately become a long line of successors. He was called Galvatron, a clever name that owes its origins to medical science—to galvanize is to stimulate with direct-current electricity, and Galvatron is armed with a weapon that produces this effect. After the animated character was designed, and Hasbro set about to create a toy based on that design, the animation studio continued to make changes, opting to swap Galvatron's grey coloring for a more vibrant purple color scheme. This meant that the Hasbro toy released to advertise the character no longer looked like he appeared in the finished film. Had the animation studio and the toy manufacturers been more in synch, it's possible Galvatron might have appeared in animation closer to these colors. I think the grey color scheme makes him look a lot more like an updated version of Megatron, personally. A strict reading of the Hasbro toy colors required me to paint his eyes orange, the same color as his arm cannon (on the 1986 toy, they were made of the same translucent plastic). The original toy colors for Galvatron also informed his look in Marvel Comics, although due to the limitations of the four-color printing process, he was closer to light blue. |
