STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE
C-3PO (LEGO) THE PHANTOM MENACE PROJECT #15 CREATED: 1999 "Of course I've looked better!" Back in 1999, LEGO had just started to produce officially-licensed building sets, and Star Wars was one of the licensed they had acquired. I had no idea that they would be steadily producing them for two decades. For all I knew, they would come out with a few models to capitalize off the hype of Episode I and then move onto other things. One official toy that they've still never produced, though, is a Phantom Menace version of C-3PO. When we first meet C-3PO at this stage in his life cycle, he's an incomplete, skeletal-looking droid who is missing his protecting body plating. I created this before any official LEGO version of C-3PO existed. I built it out of a skeleton mini-figure, filling up the gaps in between his ribs with modeling putty so that he didn't look completely hollow. I also fashioned a torso disc out of plastic and glued it to his body. Everything else is just paint. Prior to this, I did a regular, golden version of C-3PO, but it's positively embarrassing. It was project #14, and no, I'm not going to show it to you. |
