FINAL FANTASY IV
SEARCHER PROJECT #608 CREATED: JUNE 2018 The Giant of Bab-il was a gargantuan mechanical weapon, and most of the lesser monsters that patrolled its inner workings were mechanical in nature as well. The Searcher was one such machine. A flying robotic eye, the Searcher patrolled the corridors of the Giant, programmed to summon a response team to any perceived threats. Cecil and his allies would encounter the Searcher on occasion while braving the depths of the Giant, which would call forth the powerful Horseman or deadly MacGiant to do battle with Cecil's crew. The Searcher was also sometimes accompanied by a couple of Beamers, machines that fired laser weapons to repel invaders. Searchers were not particularly powerful on their own, but their ability to repeatedly summon reinforcements to come to their aid was a potential nuisance. (The Searcher is one of the few monsters that retains its original name in all the different versions of Final Fantasy IV.) I built the Searcher (as well as the Alert and Last Arm, which are identical in design) out of a Gyrosphere toy from Jurassic World. The toy already had sculpting on it that suggested an iris and pupil, so basically all I had to do was glue some ping pong ball pieces to the toy, drill a hole for a figure stand, and paint it. |
