FINAL FANTASY IV
IMP PROJECT #594 CREATED: FEBRUARY 2018 Imps were one of the most common roving baddies in the country of Baron. They were among the very first monsters encountered by Cecil and Kain, early in their world-spanning adventures. Imps were indigenous to Baron, Fabul, Mysidia, and a few other places. They sometimes wandered aimlessly in rogue packs, while other times an Imp Captain filled out their ranks and barked nonsensical orders at them. Imps were comparatively weak creatures who could be dispensed with easily. Curiously, they were among the types of creatures that the Caller known as Rydia could potentially summon into combat, though acquiring the specific magic spell to summon them was a rare and unusual feat. (In the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable remakes of Final Fantasy IV, their name was changed from Imp to Goblin.) For this group of projects (the Imp plus the three other monsters who share a sprite design with him), I wanted to use a tiny action figure so I picked the three-inch Green Goblin figure from the Marvel Super Hero Adventures toy line. The biggest challenge for this project was not just sculpting an entirely new head by hand, but doing it consistently four times in a row. I also shortened his legs, gave him a shoulderpad (actually the armor piece from a Shredder toy from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and made him a belt with a great, big belt buckle. I used a jagged-blade LEGO sword as his weapon of choice. |
