FINAL FANTASY IV
SPIRIT PROJECT #652 CREATED: JUNE 2020 Every so often, those who had shuffled off this mortal coil would remain behind in Spirit form, appearing as a ghostly manifestation of their former physical selves. These apparitions were frequently tied to a specific location that factored into their deaths in some fashion. Cast in point: Mt. Hobs was haunted by the Spirits of those who had attempted, and failed, to survive climbing the treacherous mountain. Cecil Harvey and his fellow freedom fighters would content with these frightful specters on occasion, which were often accompanied by undead Skeltons. They were capable of low-level Fire magic; fighting back with flame-based magic actually made them stronger. Cecil and company would later do battle with even stronger Souls and Ghosts, more visitors from the spectral world. To create the Spirit (and the other two figures who share the same game sprite design), I used the Fire Elemental figurine from LJN's old Dungeons & Dragons toy line from the 1980's. I cut out a chunk to form the new mouth, and also cut out the eyes and reattached them with pieces of a paper clip. I also hacked away at the bottom of the figure to change its shape. I used a combination of airbrushing and drybrushing techniques to create the blue paint gradients. The base of the new figure stand is hand-sculpted, intended to represent the terrain of Mt. Hobs, where the Spirits tended to appear. |
