FRENZY (ROBOT HEROES)
PROJECT #431 CREATED: 2009 "Sow panic and surrender will bloom!" Frenzy and Rumble were originally conceived as characters with different special abilities that complemented each other—Frenzy transmitted a high-pitched screech that could disrupt electrical systems, while Rumble could generate low-frequency seismic vibrations through his feet to create earthquakes. When Rumble was introduced in the cartoon, though, he was accidentally colored like the physically identical Frenzy toy. The character of Frenzy, meanwhile, was left out of the pilot episode completely, though he did appear later (using Rumble's colors, naturally). Rumble was depicted as having arms that transformed into pile drivers (something the G1 toy couldn't actually do), and since Frenzy used the same animation model, he sort of inherited this ability (showing it off in "City of Steel" and The Transformers: the Movie). Hasbro gave us a Rumble figure as part of the Robot Heroes toy line, but no Frenzy to accompany him, so I decided to make one. I find it easiest to paint Robot Heroes toys, and toys of similar construction, after soaking them in hot water for a few seconds, softening the plastic enough that I can easily pop off the head and limbs. For this project, I carved out the diameter of the peg-holes a little bit to make reassembly easier. I figured that for this project, it make the most sense to paint Frenzy into the colors of the Hasbro toy. (I could have gone with the purple colors used for Rumble in animation, but then I would have two Rumble figures on my shelf.) |
