FINAL FANTASY IV
D. LUNAR PROJECT #570 CREATED: JUNE 2017 "This sacred Ribbon shall not be within your hands...!" The D. Lunar creatures were a pair of vicious prehistoric, treasure-hoarding guardians. A couple of them were found in the depths of the subterranean caverns on the Moon, using a Fire attack against the party and casting the Wall spell upon themselves to make them impervious to direct magic attacks. They left behind a couple of Ribbon accessories if Cecil and company managed to beat them. Though it was an optional encounter, the fight was worth getting into. The Ribbons could be worn around the forehead of two different party members (like, say, Rosa and Rydia), protecting them from almost any status affliction during battle. Like all monsters who so fiercely guarded their treasure chests, though, there was no doing things by halves. Once Cecil challenged the D. Lunar creatures to combat, there was no escaping them—the fight didn't end until Cecil and his friends defeated the creatures, or died trying. (The creatures were renamed to Lunasaur in the PlayStation Portable version of the game.) I made the D. Lunar (as well as his sprite-mates, the D. Bone and the D. Fossil) from a Stygimoloch skeleton building kit. The head, jaw, arms, and legs were articulated to an extent, but aside from that, the assembled model didn't have any moving joints. (I thought about cutting one or two of these apart and reassembling it into a different pose than the others, but that seemed like creating extra work just for the sake of doing extra work.) I painted the figure stand to match the colors of the lunar terrain as it appears during in-game battles. These guys probably should be a bit larger, but it's not like I had a huge selection of differently-sized Stygimoloch skeletons to pick from. Beggars can't be choosers! |
