FINAL FANTASY IV
GENERAL PROJECT #642 CREATED: FEBRUARY 2020 Baron troopers who began as low-ranking Fighters could eventually be promoted to General if they demonstrated sufficient loyalty to Baron... and if they survived long enough. They were rewarded with stronger armor in different colors, denoting their new, high-ranking position. After the bulk of Baron's military was branwashed by Golbez, the General began carrying out his evil orders. One such General faced off against Cecil and his companions while attacking the castle of Fabul. Flanked by his loyal Fighters, the General put on a show of bravery only as long as he outnumbered his opponents. As soon as the tables were turned and his Fighters were defeated, however, he beat a hasty retreat. (For the updated versions of Final Fantasy IV for Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable, the General was renamed Captain. In the Nintendo DS version, though, I think they used the wrong game sprite, since he was red, like the Soldier.) I built the General (as well as the Fighter and Officer and Soldier, who all shared the same game sprite design) out of an Angus figure from Bandai's Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog toy line. The action figures were of exceptional quality and were a joy to work with. I replaced the head, using the face from a WWE action figure I got on clearance, and sculpted an all-new helmet. The toy doesn't have eyes at all, just big, empty gaps that I covered with flat black paint so they would look perpetually covered in shadow. The Fighter seems to have a slightly purple tinge to his armor, while the General is slightly blue. I may have overexaggerated the differences when I painted these guys. (I think they accidentally mixed up the game sprites for the remade versions of the game, since the General is Fighter-purple or Soldier-red in the other adaptations.) |
