FINAL FANTASY IV
EGG PROJECT #626 CREATED: APRIL 2019 Even the huge, frightening monsters that seek to threaten the world have a humble beginning to their life cycle. Every so often, Cecil Harvey and his team of adventurers would discover a recently-laid, still-unhatched egg, containing a monster within. They were presented with a choice. They could destroy the egg on sight, killing the creature inside of it, learning nothing from the experience and earning no reward. Or, they could allow the egg to hatch, revealing the juvenile form of whatever maternal beast had laid the egg. Such eggs were found during Cecil's travels through the Tower of Bab-il as well as Cave Eblana. Cecil and his companions lacked the zoological expertise to distinguish different types of eggs from each other. It was difficult to guess whether the egg would hatch into a BlackLiz, a Green D., or something else entirely. The Q. Lamia was known to guard three eggs at a time, watching them like a doting mother until they all matured and hatched into lesser Lamias. (In the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy IV, the Egg was called Mystery Egg.) Last Easter, they were selling these big plastic eggs with slime inside them. Yeah, I think it's gross, too. But, I picked one up on clearance after the holiday because I knew I'd need to paint myself a Final Fantasy egg at some point. I put a weight inside it so that it would tip over a bit, balancing like a drunken Weeble, hinting at the creature inside. The rest of the Egg's look was achieved with paint. This is not a complex project by any stretch of the imagination. |
