FINAL FANTASY IV
STONEMAN PROJECT #619 CREATED: JANUARY 2019 While most of the creatures Cecil Harvey and his companions would battle were organic in nature, the Stoneman was fashioned entirely out of rock. Whether it was a naturally-occurring being or one summoned into existence by powerful magic was not easily determined. The only thing that remained a certainty was that the Stoneman was very tough and very strong. Their natural habitate appeared to be wandering the molten plains of the Underground, but it's likely that Golbez's troops collected several of them, depositing them within the Tower of Bab-il as well. The robotic Alert drone that patrolled the Bab-il corridors could transmit a signal that summoned a nearby Stoneman. Like its cousin, the Staleman, the Stoneman was naturally weak against ice-based attacks, which turned its rock-hard body brittle and made it susceptible to crumbling. (The Stoneman was renamed Stone Golem for the Game Goy Advance remake of Final Fantasy IV.) I collected three action figures of the Stone Biter from the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line so that I could simultaneously construct the Stoneman, Ironman, and Staleman monsters. I had to build new toes for them, and I also replaced their fingers. Their new heads are handmade, but I tried to make them as identical in appearance as each other as possible. For the Stoneman's paint job, I drybrushed him with multiple shades of tan. He still didn't look finished, though, until I decorated him with tiny black and white specks, representing the different grades of sediment that his rock body would have been made from. |
