FINAL FANTASY IV
SKELTON PROJECT #639 CREATED: OCTOBER 2019 The sinister machinations of Golbez resulted in the creatures of the world falling under his command—but they were not merely limited to the world of the living. Even those who had slipped beyond this mortal coil were summoned back into existence to do Golbez's bidding. The skeletal remains of fallen Baronian soldiers were brought back as horrifying, undead monsters. Cecil Harvey and his traveling companions would encounter these reanimated Skeltons while traversing Mt. Hobs, and were often accompanied by spectral, supernatural Spirits. They could also be found on Mt. Ordeals, sometimes traveling with the Red Bone and Ghoul. Interestingly, curative magic and potions could actually hurt these creatures—meaning that even tiny little Rydia could potentially destroy one just by lobbing a Cure potion at one of them. (The name of the Skeleton was truncated unnecessarily as "Skelton" for the Super Nintendo release of Final Fantasy IV, despite there being enough room for its properly-spelled eight-letter monster name.) It was surprisingly difficult to find action figures of skeletons that were suitable for my purposes. I eventually decided on Aracula from the Skeleton Warriors toy line, gobbling up three of them on eBay (I had to build the Red Bone and Skull as well). I had to make a bunch of physical modifications to the toy: chopping off his additional arms, shortening the limbs and torso, rebuilding the face, and adding articulation to the left arm so he could grasp his sword with both hands. His chest armor came from a WWE "Create-A-Superstar" accessory set. I sculpted new boots for him as well as tasset armor for the hips. The belt is stretchy elastic. |
