ANOTHER BUTTERFLY'S TALE:
THE QUEST FOR THE WORLD-BREAKER SYZYGY (LEGO) PROJECT #538 CREATED: 2015 "Mister Four, you forget that I am, above all else, a tool. When a tool is placed in a closet, the expectation is that the tool should remain there. It simply wouldn't do for it to simply sally forth and demand attention before called upon!" When I decided to start building LEGO mini-figures based on Four and Mariposa, the two principal characters from the Butterfly Princess e-books I've written, I realized it would be fun to do more of them. I admit to having a soft spot for Syzygy, the enchanted wooden construct introduced in The Quest for the World-Breaker, and I really wanted to see him realized in three-dimensional form. I started with a LEGO skeleton toy, though I significantly modified the shape of the chest and head. Syzygy has a wooden outer shell constructed around a metal framework, so I tried to reflect this in the design and choice of paint colors. He's got a flat, cylindrical head, so I shaped down the top and bottom of the head to try achieve that look. His eyes are clear pieces of plastic that I painted with see-through green paint to try to make them look like gemstones. Syzygy gets destroyed and badly rebuilt at some point between The Quest for the World-Breaker and The Curse of the Fate Shifter, so at some point I want to build a damaged, mismatched version of Syzygy. |
