FINAL FANTASY IV
PALOM PROJECT #474 CREATED: 2011 "How many times do I have to tell you not to skip your lessons? Here's your homework!" Palom was the self-proclaimed genius of Mysidia, the flamboyant and immature twin sibling of Porom. He lacked his sister's grace and good manners, but he was equally powerful as a mage. Palom and Porom were assigned to the Dark Knight named Cecil when he came to Mysidia, looking to brave the trial of Mt. Ordeals to become a Paladin. Palom and Porom later sacrificed themselves to save Cecil and his friends to stop the dying Kainazzo's attempts to crush the parts within the walls of Castle Baron. Since Palom and Porom are twin siblings, I intended to start with the same base figure, making slightly different modifications to turn one into a boy and the other a girl. I picked the Gohan figure from a Burger King Dragon Ball Z promotion back in 2000, because it had ideal child-like proportions and anime styling (and because I already had two of them). The toy was basically a statue, so I build new joints for the neck and both shoulders. I restyled his hair, and I also altered his eyes and eyebrows to give him that distinctive cockeyed smirk. His staff was cobbled together from assorted plastic parts, and was intended to resemble the weapon from his CGI illustration. His color scheme is basically a mash-up of several different designs, staying mostly faithful to his combat sprite but also throwing in some details from the original concept artwork by Yoshitaka Amano. My goal wasn't to slavishly copy the game sprite, but to come up with an action figure that captures the approximate look and feel of his many alternate designs. |
