FINAL FANTASY IV
ROCKMOTH PROJECT #628 CREATED: MAY 2019 The hidden Underground, deep beneath the crust of the Earth, was an entirely new world unto itself, with its own ecology and indigenous creatures. Among these creatures were the RockMoth, a gigantic winged insect. They began their life cycle as the RocLarva, undergoing a metamorphosis similar to the butterfly, before emerging as the winged RockMoth. Fully-grown RockMoths could be found traveling the Underground with its immature larval counterpart. They could also be found traveling with the TrapRose, which they may have helped to pollenate. The RockMoth could even be summoned to do battle by a Conjurer, dwelling in the Land of Summoned Monsters, to do battle on its behalf. The RockMoth used a Powder attack, furiously flapping its wings to blind opponents with the resultant wing dust. However, they were not difficult to destroy. (The RockMoth was named the Hellflapper in the Game Boy Advance remake of Final Fantasy IV.) I wanted to make the RockMoth and his cousins fairly large and menacing, and the Blue Morpho Butterfly made by Safari, Ltd. was a good size. I reversed the orientation of the butterfly, repurposing its belly as its back. I also replaced the legs (made the new ones out of paper clips), added a proboscis (also a paper clip), and the antennae (pieces of a pipe cleaner with some of the fuzzy part removed). To make it look like the moths were flying, I used the semi-translucent plastic stick from a push-up ice cream treat (I can get them for cheap, they're plentiful, and I'm a sucker for orange sherbet). |
