TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
APRIL O'NEIL (LEGO) PROJECT #409 CREATED: 2008 "'Pretty weird-lookin' toy, ain't it?" "Yeah, there's no accounting for taste." Right after I finished my LEGO version of Shredder, I started pondering the idea of making an April O'Neil figure to go along with it. By this point, I only had a handful of LEGO parts laying around so I put the idea aside for a while. It wasn't for several years that I finally got around to finishing the project. While I was considering how to approach this project, a couple of things happened. For one, LEGO started producing official minifigures with more realistic flesh tones, instead of the sickly Simpsons yellow that had been a staple for decades. Another change was that they started producing minifigure heads with multiple facial expressions. I realized that the Marion Ravenwood figure produced for the Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb LEGO set would be perfect for April. I only had to make a minor modification to her plastic hair piece, and I painted the figure to resemble the yellow jumpsuit April wears in the classic cartoon. The figure has two expressions, a normal one and a shocked expression, which fits the character nicely. |
