FINAL FANTASY IV
WERE BAT PROJECT #623 CREATED: JANUARY 2019 There were stories told over campfires late at night of a monster known only as the Were Bat. According to legend, the Were Bat was purported to metamorphose from a a human into a humongous bat-like creature, with a ravenous appetite for blood and fangs that could pierce flesh. The truth of the legendary Were Bat was far less fanciful, as Cecil Harvey and his friends would eventually discover. The beast in question, living within the Sealed Cave deep inside the Underground realm, was no lycanthrope. It was, however, a much more powerful creature than its distant relatives, the Cave Bat and GiantBat. And its appetite for blood was real. It had a tendency to swoop directly towards its prey and instantly latch on, sinking its fangs into their skin. The Were Bats tended to flock around the VampLady, often in large groups, making this already terrifying foe even more dangerous. While Lightning attacks caused Zero damage to them, they were particularly susceptible to Fire. (The monster was called the Evil Bat in the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy IV.) I started with a four-inch Papo brand plastic bat toy (assortment #50239). I drilled a hole into the bottom so I could plug a figure stand into it. After that, it was just a matter of painting it. Of the three monsters that share this specific game sprite design, the Were Bat arguably has the least realistic-looking color scheme. |
