FINAL FANTASY IV
GRUGDER PROJECT #668 CREATED: JULY 2022 Perhaps the most memorable non-corporeal creature encountered by Cecil Harvey and his followers was the Mist Dragon guarding the Cave of Mist. But, it was far from the only monster they would encounter that lacked a solid form. On occasion, they would also encounter the wispy, haunting figure known as the Grudger. True to her name, the Grudger remembered those who had wronged her, and would seek retribution for their misdeeds above all else. Cecil's crew would discover her in the depths of the Tower of Bab-il, sometimes traveling with a floating Balloon or a ghostly Blademan. Attacking her with lightning-based magic helped her instead of hurting her. Despite her menacing demeanor and fantastic hair, The Grudger was unable to cling to her existence forever, and was forced to finally stop holding a grudge. (In the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy IV, the Grudger was called Reisai, which translates to something like "storm soul." In later remakes of the game, Grudger was renamed Storm Anima, where "anima" describes a person's inner essence, giving the new name nearly the same meaning.) Grudger (and Screamer and Weeper) are visually similar to the Lamia. Where the Lamia is half-woman and half-snake, the Grudger and company are half-woman and half-cloud. Or something. I really don't know. I also wasn't sure at first how to construct these projects physically, especially the bottom half. In the end, I used the Funko Pop version of the evil genie Jafar from Aladdin. The upper body is a Marvel Legends action figure called Shriek, but I replaced her head with another Marvel Legends figure named White Rabbit because I liked her hair better. And let me tell you, it was not an easy task to assemble three complete sets of these very specific toys! |
