FINAL FANTASY IV
SOUL PROJECT #651 CREATED: JUNE 2020 Mt. Ordeals was a challenging and potentially deadly landmark that, true to its name, was a true ordeal to successfully conquer. Only the strongest and most courageous adventurers managed to weather its harsh conditions, and regrettably, not everyone survived the experience. Souls were most likely the non-corporeal remains of those travelers who perished upon Mt. Ordeals, succumbing to the perilous trek. These poor, unfortunate Souls haunted the path on the mountainside, sometimes accompanied by the skeletal Red Bone. Whether they were trying to attack and destroy those they encountered, or were merely trying to warn then of the danger, was not immediately clear. However, Cecil was forced to dispatch these disembodied Souls during his ascent up the mountain, finally granting them the eternal peace that they failed to achieve in life. After searching for some good, ghostly-looking toys to start with, I discovered the existence of the Fire Elemental figurine produced for the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing games in 1982. Finding three of these at a decent price (to make not just the Soul but also the Spirit and the Ghost) was not an easy feat. I carved out the mouth, added a tongue, and also hollowed out his eye sockets. I wanted to reduce the toy's weight so he could balance easily on a figure stand, so I cut the toy apart and hollowed it out as much as possible. The game sprite is an odd mix of orange and green colors, so I painted the toy orange first and then airbrushed almost the entire thing green, leaving just a little of the orange still visible. |
