FINAL FANTASY IV
ALERT PROJECT #606 CREATED: JUNE 2018 Most of the time, the treasure boxes found in dungeons and caves were filled wih valuable gold or useful weapons. On rare occasions, however, a treasure chest was actually a trap containing powerful monsters. One such trap discovered by Cecil Harvey and his traveling companions was found during their travels through the twisting corridors of the Tower of Bab-il. This treasure chest contained an Alert, a hovering robotic drone. While it was not particularly powerful on its own, it could summon the roving Stoneman, a far more dangerous foe. Cecil and company would encounter several more Alerts during their travels through the Tower of Bab-il. They were programmed to scan and attempt to identify intruders within the tower; if Cecil and company opted to attack it, this confirmed their status as enemies, and the Alert would respond in kind. The roving Alerts could summon a variety of monsters to do battle, including a Naga, Chimera, or FlameDog. It was a cooperative efforts that was comparatively rare amongst the monsters that Cecil's group would encounter. (In the Game Boy Advance remake of Final Fantasy IV, the Alert was renamed Security Eye.) The Alert (and the two other enemies in the game sharing the same game sprite design) always reminded me of the eyeball on top of the TechnoDrome from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, but finding three of them on the secondary market was cost-prohibitive (the eyeball piece alone tends to go for over $3o on eBay). The Gyrosphere vehicle from Jurassic World was a good, and affordable, second choice. I cut apart a ping pong ball and attached half of it to form the drone's "hat," and used more ping pong ball parts to form the various shell panels. The antennae are all LEGO parts. |
