BEBOP (HUMAN PUNK)
PROJECT #566 CREATED: 2017 "All right, April O'Neil. Now that we've got you, you're gonna lead us to...THE BASEMENT!" Before Bebop was mutated into the lovable warthog we all know and love, he first appeared in the original TMNT cartoon as a member of a street gang working for Shredder. The show would revisit Bebop in his human form a couple more times (either in a dream sequence or a hologram disguise), but there was no official action figure ever made to represent his original form (yeah, there was the Mutatin' Bebop toy, but it was way too big, and the wrong skin tone). I started with a figure of Zak the Neutrino, who had the right skinny, lanky build. I made lots of cosmetic changes, rebuilding the boots, making braces for his forearms, adding a new belt buckle, and making his jacket a little poofier where it meets his waist. I also had to totally redesign the head. Bebop has a very specific facial geometry I was trying to capture, so I used parts of the faces of various Dick Tracy toys: the ears and jaw line from Influence, and the lips and nose from Dick Tracy himself. The mohawk and glasses are an all-new sculpt. In looking back at this project I realize now that his head is too large for his body. I'm not sure how I missed that during the construction phase, but it really bothers me. BEBOP (HUMAN PUNK)
