FINAL FANTASY IV
COCKTRIC PROJECT #589 CREATED: DECEMBER 2017 The Cocktric was among the random creatures Cecil and his party encountered when traveling near Mysidia or Silvera, or en route through Mt. Hobs. They were sometimes seen flying with the more powerful Raven, and they were occasionally found flanked by an aerial Gargoyle. As a Caller, young Rydia could learn how to summon the Cocktric, adding it to the roster of monsters she was capable of calling upon to do her bidding during battle. (Due to the alphanumeric name limitations in the American version of Final Fantasy IV for Super Nintendo, the name of the creature was rather unfortunately truncated to Cocktric. It's called Cocatris in the PlayStation Portable version of the game, and referred to as Cockatrice is Game Boy Advance version.) The Schleich brand bird I used for this project was originally perched permanently upon a log, so I had to cut that off. I added a tuft of feathers on the top of its head to try to more closely emulate the look of the game sprite. I also drilled a hole into the bottom of the bird's body so I could attach a figure stand, which is actually the stick from a push-up ice cream treat. The Cocktric appeared in Final Fantasy IV in a lovely shade of blue, which I've reproduced in three-dimensional form using approximately the same shades of the color used in its original 16-bit game sprite. I used a watered-down paint wash to allow different shades of paint to seep between the gaps between the feathers on the undersides of the wings. I had to paint the eyes with a sharp toothpick. |
