FINAL FANTASY IV
PUPPET PROJECT #661 CREATED: OCTOBER 2020 Within the Tower of Zot dwelled the strange and mystical Marion, possessing the magical ability to summon wooden dolls to do his nefarious bidding. After Cecil Harvey and his companions entered the tower, they often found that, rather than dealing with the Marion directly, they were first forced to contend with his legion of Puppets. Sometimes the Marion would surround himself with lifeless Puppets, intending to shield himself from harm. Cecil was no dummy, however, and had little trouble defeating both the Puppets as well as their sinister puppet master. (Most of the enemies from Final Fantasy IV have received various alternate names as the game has been ported to different game systems, but the Puppet has always remained the Puppet.) The Puppet (as well as the EvilDoll, the Cal doll, and the Brena doll) were made out of an articulated figure I got off eBay called Figma Body Kun. It's constructed cheaply and tends to fall apart without modifications, but its physical appearance was perfect for this project so I couldn't not use it. I drilled some eye holes into the doll's face to attach a pair of eyeballs. I deliberately made the paint job a little shoddy, as if the doll was aging original paint was coming off. The idea was to make the doll as creepy as possible while still following the basic design of the 16-bit game sprite. (I used both the Super Nintendo and PlayStation Portable sprites for reference, but they accidentally swapped the grey EvilDoll and the similar-but-different, purple-tinted Puppet for the PSP version.) |
