FINAL FANTASY IV
FIGHTER PROJECT #641 CREATED: FEBRUARY 2020 Fighters were the loyal enforcers for Baron, recruited to defend the realm and ward off invaders. They all wore identical plate armor, and were all armed with standard-issue swords. The best of them hoped to one day be promoted to the rank of Officer, but this was a pipe dream few ever achieved. Several Fighters were brainwashed by Golbez into attacking the castle of Fabul, prompting Cecil and company to battle some of the very same men with whom they had once fought alongside. The Fighters dutifully obeyed the orders of their General, and were willing to fight to the death on his behalf. Their General wasn't about th extend them the same courtesy, though, and usually fled as soon as his loyal Fighters were defeated. (For the remake of Final Fantasy IV for Game Boy Advance, the Fighter was renamed Baron Warrior. In the PlayStation Portable adaptation, he was called Baron Marine.) I built my Fighter action figure out of a Mystic Knights or Tir Na Nog action figure named Angus from 1998. I replaced the head entirely, using the face from a Retro Series WWE action figure, and sculpted a new helmet. In the original game sprite, the helmet appears to be based on the German stahlhelm used during World War I, so I tried to give it that specific shape. I also whittled off some of the detail on the knight armor, and sculpted new shin guards. The bandana came off a Ninja Turtles toy, and the sword is from a Marvel Legends Silver Samurai action figure. The Super Nintendo had a somewhat limited color pallette, so the yellow trim of the battle armor also doubled as the flesh tone for the Fighter's visible face. Normally, I try to interpret the video game colors as literally as possible, but in this case it would have been a disaster, so I deviated a bit and painted his face a more natural color. |
