FINAL FANTASY IV
PANTHER PROJECT #648 CREATED: APRIL 2020 Panthers were a subfamily of great cats that also included jaguars and leopards. One such deadly type of Panther was indigenous to the island of Silvera, while others dwelled within the confines of Cave Magnes. Moving like cagey tigers, they often traveled with Ogres, who kept the creatures as pets. Panthers tended not to lash out unless provoked, but they used a dangerous Bluster attack which could paralyze or kill an opponent instantly. After defeating this beast, Cecil and his group would coeurl—er, that is, curl up by the fire and fall asleep for a while. (The Panther was renamed Cait Sith in the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy IV, named after a Celtic mythological creature, and retroactively making it the same type of creature that would later appear as a playable character in Final Fantasy VII. In any event, they're wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty.) I made my Panther (as well as the BlackCat, who shared a game sprite) out of the laying female cheetah figure manufactured by a company called AAA. The figurine was pregnant, I guess, because it had huge swollen nipples. I got rid of those. The new whiskers were made from plastic cord that I glued to the face. I painted the toy entirely white before airbrushing it in yellow and orange and brown. Then I spent several hours painting the spots by hand! (And, yes, it's possible my initials, DGE, are visible in the leopard spots somewhere. Because I'm an egotistical maniac.) |
