FINAL FANTASY IV
GORGON PROJECT #676 CREATED: JANUARY 2024 The rare and elusive Gorgon was a monster not to be trifled with. Living only in a highly secluded area of the Underground, the creature would lash out against any intruders with claws and teeth and even hair! Though feminine in form and appearance, the Gorgon was a dangerous adversary. Like her cousin, the Medusa, she possessed a mass of snake-like tentacles in place of normal hair. Moreover, she had the ability to petrify anyone who met her gaze. It was only by pure chance that Cecil Harvey, during his time spent in the Underground, encountered her at all. (Just as the Medusa was never renamed for any of the various remakes of Final Fantasy IV, the Gorgon has always remained the Gorgon. In ancient Greek mythology, there were three Gorgon women, one of whom was Medusa.) I used three action figures and combined them together for this project. For the body, I used the Dana Barrett toy from the Ghostbusters "Plasma Series" assortment, since she was already barefoot and wearing a suitable dress. I didn't like her asymmetrical arms, though, so I replaced them with the arms from Evil-Lyn from the Masters of the Universe Origins toy line. For the head, I used a Medusa figure from the Spawn action figure line. This was not an inexpensive project to put together! The large snakes on her head are bendy and have wires inside them, but I contorted them to approximate the position of the snakes in the SNES video game sprite. I didn't want the paint to chip off after I finished, so I glued her elbows and knees and ankles in place. She requires an action figure stand to support her, since she's now posed in a permanent attack lunge. I mostly kept my project true to the colors of the original Super Nintendo game sprite (which had a severely limited color palette), but I did borrow some ideas from the PlayStation remake and made her leg braces and arm braces silver instead of green. |
