FINAL FANTASY IV
EDGE PROJECT #455 CREATED: 2010 "Think I'm just a spoiled prince, huh? The Royal Family of Eblan are trained as Ninja! I can take care of this myself, okay?" Our heroes first encountered Edward "Edge" Geraldine within the mysterious Tower of Bab-il, a lone warrior determined to take on Rubicant, one of the Four Fiends of Elements, who was responsible for destroying his castle home of Eblan and kidnapping his parents. Edge joined forces with Cecil and his crew, and was forced to dispatch his own mother and father, who had been transformed into hideous monsters by Rubicant's minions. Despite being a newcomer to Cecil's quest, Edge's skills with a blade proved sufficient that he was among those who assembled for the trip through the subterranean passages of the Moon and, ultimately, the final confrontation with Zemus. The first time I saw the Marvel vs. Capcom Strider action figure, I was struck by how closely it resembled Edge. It was thus my impetus for all of my Final Fantasy IV projects. Strider originally had a gimmick where his hands rotated at the wrist when you turned his waist, but I gutted the gimmick and rebuilt his joints. His arm guards, hip armor, and shoulder pad were originally from a Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog figure, and his cape is from a Dragon Ball Z Piccolo figure from a Burger King promotion. His belt is a 1988 TMNT Donatello belt with some Usagi Yojimbo armor pieces glued to it. I created his Murasame and Masamune swords using accessories that came with a 2003 TMNT Foot Soldier toy, painting them to match the in-game sprites. (I couldn't decide whether they yellow and grey sprite colors were meant to represent gold and silver, so I painted the tassles the in-game colors and used metallic colors for the metal parts of the swords.) |
