FINAL FANTASY IV
LARVA PROJECT #672 CREATED: APRIL 2023 Larvae were among the creatures Cecil Harvey would contend with early in his career—one of the first signs that the planet's once-docile creatures had begin to turn hostile and dangerous. The Larvae typically lived within the Misty Cave, the road to the Village of Mist, the Kaipo and Damcyan deserts, and the path to Octomamm's waterfall. It frequently traveled with the SandMoth, and was likely the juvenile form of the larger, flying SandMoth. Larvae were not a significant threat to Cecil or his companions, and were honestly the least of his worries. They were, however, a clear indication that something larger and far more sinister was happening behind the scenes. (In the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy IV, this monster's name translated to Insectus. It sometimes had this name in various remakes of the game as well.) I used a Papo brand caterpillar figurine to build the Larva (as well as the Crawler and RocLarva, who share a game sprite design). It had the right body design, but I needed to contort its shape to more closely match the pose that the monster exhibits in the game. This involved slicing the figurine into pieces and running a wire through its body segments before reassembling it. The new tail antennae were made from LEGO parts. |
